Cueva del Pino (Pine tree cave), Granada
Cueva del Pino (Pine tree cave) is situated in a picturesque rural farm setting. Part cave, part traditional Cortijo it's self catering accommodation offers 2 double bedrooms, 1 of which has its own en suite bathroom; 1 bedroom with a set of bunks; and a double sofa bed in the lounge. It can easily accommodate up to 8 people, with parking for 3-4 cars.
It can be found on the outskirts of Fatima, 8km from the beautiful mountain top Andalucian village of Castril, 28km from Huescar, 40km from Baza and 1 hour 30 minutes from Granada.
The cave house has recently been reformed to a high standard and provides modern amenities while retaining much of its original charm. It's approximately 100 years old with a fabulous large old pine tree to the front of the property, hence its name. The rustic cave part of the house offers a cool retreat in the heat of the summer and with the help of a wood burner a lovely and cosy place to be in the winter. Cueva del Pino sits by itself and offers guests space and tranquility. There is also a large private pool and patio area that overlook olive and almond groves to the Sierra de Castril in the distance, this provides a spectacular backdrop. On a clear day the Sierra de Nevada can also be seen.
All linen and towels are provided. A welcome pack is also available if required. Travel cot, high chair and All-Terrain pushchair are available for hire.

The grounds around our accommodation are perfect for those who are seeking tranquility away from the fast pace of the modern world. It is the perfect place to relax with a good book, or take in the great views whilst watching eagles drift by overhead.

Explore the nearby towns of Castril, Huescar, Baza, Galera to experience the essence of this special part of Spain and Granada is within reach for a day trip.
Walking in the sierra de Castril is very spectacular, and miles away from the crowds. It is rare to meet other walkers even on popular routes.As well as walking in the mountains there are many walks suitable for families close to our accommodation.
Away from our own swimming pool at Cueva del Pino, are a number of swimming pools to visit. The nearest is in Castril, it is open all summer and costs approximate€ 2 for entry for the day. There is also a large man made lagoon at nearby Los Olivares. A little further away is the warm lagoon waters near Orce and the thermal springs at Zujar which are said to have healing powers.
The area has a number of lakes that many use for swimming and recreation. Embalse Portillo is the local lake of Castril and is popular for canoeing, picnicking and swimming. The nearby Embalse Bolera is another popular lake for canoeing, swimming and picnicking. . There is also a nice restaurant/ bar situated here. It is possible to hire canoes.
Some other activities in the area are horse riding, rock climbing, canyoning, mountain biking, fishing, bird watching. A day skiing in the Sierra Nevada is a popular excursion. We are able to arrange these activities for you.
